Family law
General overview
This covers a wide range of topics from divorce and financial issues, including property disputes, domestic abuse and injunctions, right through to matters concerning the welfare of children such as residence, contact and parental responsibility. We can help both married and unmarried couples to include same sex couples. We have specialist solicitors who are on the Law Society's Family, Children and Mediation Panels. We have two solicitors who have recently completed the Resolution Collaborative Law Foundation Training.
To view relevant CLS leaflets and further information please click on their website Legal Services Commission
In the family team there are five women and one man. The combined experience of the team in family law is in excess of 100 years.
At Howlett Clarke we have contracts with the Legal Services Commission
(for family and mediation) which means that we offer financial support to those in need through either Legal Help or Public Funding.
We also offer a free half hour consultation scheme.

Family mediation
Our mediator is Sarah Mellish, who is a solicitor and has also trained with the Solicitors Family Law Association (now Resolution). She offers mediation upon all kinds of issues arising on relationship breakdown. Mediation can be offered to both heterosexual and same sex couples on family breakdown.
Sarah Mellish offers a free intake session to couples wishing to consider mediation to assess suitability and financial eligibility. if eligible Sarah Mellish is able to offer publicly funded mediation as the firm has a contract with the Legal Services Commission.
Mediation provides a supportive and professional forum in which a couple, heterosexual or same sex, can be helped to deal with all issues arising on relationship breakdown, including for example the practicalities of separation, the question of divorce, arrangements for children, housing, property, capital adjustments, maintenance and any other issues raised.
